Moses GMC of Huntington

About

The Moses Automotive Network that exists today in West Virginia began in Welch, West Virginia in 1947. Jack Moses, after finishing serving our country in World War II, opened a Lincoln-Mercury dealership, along with two partners, on April 1st, 1947. In 1949, Mr. Moses bought the Ford dealership in Welch, selling his original interest in the Lincoln-Mercury store. The opportunity arose to purchase another Ford dealership in Ashland, Kentucky and Mr. Moses sold the Welch store to take advantage of this opportunity.

In 1955, the death of Willy Green, the Huntington Pontiac dealer, allowed Mr. Moses with the chance to return to Huntington, his birthplace and the location of his college years at Marshall University. The dealership was located downtown on 4th Avenue, where the business continued to succeed. The Volkswagen franchise was added in January of 1962.
Moses Pontiac on 4th Ave, Huntington, WVIn 1970, Mr. Moses took a chance and moved his store out of the city and built new buildings to house his Pontiac and Volkswagen franchises. Very little was located surrounding the current location at 5200 Rt. 60 E then, but now the Pontiac-Buick-GMC-Nissan-Mitsubishi-Isuzu store and original AutoMall is a testament to wisdom of that move.

Also in 1970, Mr. Moses' sons, Jack and Bob, joined the business with Jack eventually taking over the AutoMall store and Bob going to Charleston when the Moses group acquired a Cadillac store on Virginia Street in Charleston in 1979. Then, in 1982, a Buick dealership became available on Washington Street in Charleston and the Cadillac franchise was moved there, the current location of the Cadillac-Buick-Pontiac-GMC store in Charleston.
The 80's saw many additions to the Moses line-up. Isuzu was added to the Huntington store in 1982. Huntington store also built a new facility in 1983 to host the newly acquired Nissan franchise (then called Datsun). Also in 1983, GMC Truck was added to the Charleston store. The Charleston store completed its line-up in 1988 with the addition of Pontiac. In November of 1989, the Huntington store introduced Mitsubishi to the tri-state area.

The company continued to expand in the 90's with the purchasing of two stores. Harvey Shreve Ford and BMW joined the Moses family in 1991 (the name was changed to Moses in 1996) with Mr. Moses' youngest son, Steve, managing. Three years later, 1994, Moses Honda was opened with Mr. Moses' only daughter, Barbara, to oversee it. The Volkswagen franchise experienced its second move in the family, joining Honda at the Barboursville location in 1997.

The Huntington AutoMall store completed its franchise line-up with the additions of Buick in November of 1996 and GMC Trucks in January of 2000 and Cadillac in August of 2003.
